Alton Young Sherbet, 86, of Pell City, AL., passed away peacefully at his residence on Monday, October 14, 2024. Born on June 11, 1938, and raised in Blount County, AL. Alton attended Locust Fork High School. During the 1950’s, he became a barber and began working in Cleveland, AL. During his career he also worked in the Center Point, Roebuck, Huffman, and Trussville communities of Alabama, before retiring in 2018 after a sixty plus year career. Alton was a current member of Cropwell Baptist Church, in Pell City, AL.
Alton is preceded in death by parents Morris and Maggie Sherbet, brothers Lewis, Calvin, Horace, Jim, and J.T. Sherbet, and sister Willie Faye Sherbet Marsh. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Helen Lorene Hayes Sherbet; sons Larry Joe Sherbet (Lynn) and Alton Wayne Sherbet (Deborah); grandchildren Bill (Kirbey), Cathy, Britt (Jennifer), Tyler, and Dylan Sherbet (Haley); great grandchildren Baylee, Wilson, Ellie, Bentley, and Addison Sherbet; and sister Rena Sherbet Brazeel: and a host of friends.
Alton will lie in state at Lemley Funeral Home in Oneonta, AL, on Thursday, October 17 th and visitation will be from 1:00 to 2:00pm. Funeral services will be held graveside at High Rock Congregational Methodist Church at 3:00pm, with Reverend Rick Collins presiding. Asked to serve as pallbearers are Alton William Sherbet, Joseph Britt Sherbet, Clinton Tyler Sherbet, Joseph Dylan Sherbet, Conrad Horton, and Eddie Brazeel. The church is located at 260 High Rock Rd, Hayden, AL 35079.
