On November 22, 1955, the world was given a double blessing as Bishop Abraham T. Simmons and Mother Cora Berry Simmons welcomed twins, one of whom was Naomi Juah Simmons. Naomi meaning pleasantness and Juah meaning my delight.
Naomi was raised in Monrovia, Liberia surrounded by her large and loving family. She enjoyed spending time with siblings and childhood friends, cooking and caring for others.
Naomi attended Michael J. Owens Technical College, followed by Davis Junior College in San Francisco. She later graduated from the University of Phoenix and the Trinity Evangelical Christian University with her PhD in Pastoral Counseling and Psychological Studies.
Naomi worked in several careers throughout her lifetime. Some of her favorite positions were working as a registered nurse, owning and operating a daycare, serving as an elementary and special education teacher, and counseling. She also served as an ordained minister who shared the word of God with everyone she encountered through her prayer band, churches, and everyday life.
One of her most prized positions was being a dedicated wife to her late husband, Reverend Blamo B. N. Seekie, and being a loving mother to her children: Victoria, Farmetta, Jarcee, Nyentue, Nyonnohweah and Nyonnohwleh, all of whom she referred to as her precious jewels.
On a beautiful Sunday afternoon, surrounded by loved ones, Naomi transitioned to be with the Lord. The sweet memories of Naomi will be cherished by her precious jewels, Victoria Carpenter (George), Farmetta Simmons Garbla (Nathaniel), Jarcee Fahnbulleh - Hersey, Nyentue Seekie (Christina), Nyonnohweah Seekie Richard (Cecil) and Nyonnohwleh Seekie; her grandchildren, Yunica Ortiz, Nancy Garbla, Victor Ortiz, Antonio Seekie, Jamil Hersey, Michaela Hersey, Destinee Nawee, Kiara Seekie, Magnus Garbla, Jayden Seekie, Terell “TJ” Ladson, and Cora Nawee; her siblings; Ernest Simmons (Etta), Almatee Mardia Simmons, Abraham T. Simmons, II, Choloh William Simmons (Marie), Martha Simmons, Evelyn Simmons Shaw (Alfred II), Herbert Simmons, Sr. (Georgia), Eric Simmons, and Josephine Momsey Simmons Dennis, (Cecelia Roberts & Comfort Simmons predeceased her); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives in the United States, Liberia, United Kingdom, Ghana, and Nigeria.
