Charles Edwin Clark, 75, of Cordele, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 14, 2024, at Blackshear Retirement Villas. A graveside service honoring his life will be held on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, at 11 a.m. at Sunnyside Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at a visitation on Monday, October 14, 2024, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Hughes & Wright Funeral Home. The family may also be contacted at the home of Stephanie Marchant, 719 East 20th Ave., Cordele, GA.
Born in Americus, Georgia, Charles was the son of the late Frank Ed Clark and Etta Goodrum Clark. He was also preceded in death by his beloved wife of 45 years, Martha Jean Hobbs Clark; his sister, Jane Hodge; and nephews, Scott Hodge and James Dawson.
Charles was a proud graduate of Crisp County High School, Class of 1968. After high school, he enlisted in the United States Army and served his country with distinction in Vietnam from 1969 to 1972. After returning home, he began a long career in civil service with the U.S. Government at Ft. Benning, retiring in 2003 after 25 years of dedicated service. He was also a member of the Baptist faith and had served as a Deacon.
He leaves behind his children, Russ (Joanne) Clark and Stephanie Marchant (Mark Allen), both of Cordele; his brother, Jimmy (Jelanie) Clark of Dawson, Ga.; his sister, Lynn O’Neal of Cordele; his cherished grandchildren, Edward, Logan, and Cameron Marchant; and his great-granddaughter, Kaia Marchant.
The family suggests that memorial contributions should be made to The Gideons International.
