Norma D. Vulgamore Obituary

Hopefully there is a TJMaxx in heaven because Norma Dean (Davis) Vulgamore passed from this earthly life on Monday, October 14, 2024 from complications of dementia. Born on December 27, 1933, she grew up the daughter of Ernest and Nellie (Mercer) Davis, and spent her childhood with 9 siblings: Delbert, Leafy, Betty, Marvin, Alvin, Janet, Kay, Harold, and Bonnie. A graduate of Piketon High School, Norma Dean married Norbert Jean Vulgamore on February 25, 1951 in Greenup County, Kentucky; thus becoming the daughter-in-law of James and Ruth, along with sister-in-law to Marabelle (Eugene) McRoberts (Tom & Doug). From Norb and Deanie’s marriage, she became Mom to five daughters: Rebecca Sue (Tip), Debra Lynn (Alan), Sheri Lee (Randy), Lori Ellen (Mick), and Amy Jean (Todd); Grandma Deanie to ten: Brya (Tyler), Meredith (Sean), Hilary (Johnathan), Stephanie (Justin), David (Rachel) , Rheadon (Jenna), Davis (Paige), Kellyn, Kyla (David), and Cameron (Alex); and Great-Grandma Deanie to fifteen: Brenna & Beckett, Indie, Baby Stewie (on-the-way), Casey, Carolyn, & Cody, Colin, Asher & Leila, Brooks & Baylor, Nash & Nolan, and Tucker. Deanie spent most of her 90 years residing in Jasper on State Route 104, Jasper Road and Sugar Run Road, until Norb’s passing in 2019, when she moved to the “white house with blue shutters” in Piketon.

It’s difficult to pinpoint Deanie’s “career.” While the traditional terms would probably be housewife or stay-at-home mom, her work encompassed so many varying roles. She was proudly (in no particular) a seamstress, chef, short-order cook, soup simmerer, potato masher, noodle cutter, pie baker, cream puff maker, landlord, leaf raker, master folder, Croswell bus tour traveler, bargain shopper, Manheim Auto Auction driver, V & V Auto Sales car detailer, carpet layer, wallpaper steamer, house flipper, power washer, painter, roofer, mower, tree trimmer, florist, flower enthusiast, green thumb gardener, DWTS fanatic, holiday hostess, caretaker, Sunday dinner provider, hair stylist, decorator, babysitter, grand poobah baby hog, Nintendo cheerleader, Buckeye/Cavs/Reds fan, yard sale facilitator, telephone talker, bowler, square dancer, weed killer, housekeeper, A-shift picnic organizer, Piketon-Jasper UMC member, Dogwood Festival soup kitchen volunteer, launderer, curtain hanger, gift giver, prize provider, cruise director, fashionista, furniture mover, Hey Hey Good Lookin’ singer, Jeopardy lover, word creator, and number one matriarch in her family’s eyes.

No one celebrated good news like the Deanster; her excited, big-eyed, shouts-of-joy reactions to anything positive or exciting shared with her by her family were something to behold. She loved her people fiercely, maybe even a bit biasedly; and when she laughed hard, the sun shined brighter. Tongue in cheek, she prided herself on never being wrong; and if she was wrong (gasp), it was “Norb’s fault.” Rarely seen without lipstick applied, she was the queen of coordinating outfits from head to toe. She will be always loved and forever missed by all who knew and adored her.

The family would like to thank the staffs at Bristol Village Gardens, NPR Hospice, and Reliable Home Care, LLC for the comfort, care and compassion provided to Deanie through the end of her earthly life. Services will be private for the family through Howe-Wheeler-Boyer Funeral Home in Piketon followed by burial in Mound Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please donate to any dementia care or research institutions; and to honor Deanie, go “browsing for bargains” at your favorite retail store–add in a McDonald’s ice cream cone on the way home for the full effect.
