Ernest ”Butch” Sleddon Bessette, Jr., 79, of Southern Pines, died on Sunday, September 29, 2024.
He was born on October 4, 1944 in Boston, Massachusetts to Erwina Knight Bessette and Ernest Sleddon Bessette, Sr. He is survived by his wife of 45 years , Anne Devereux Bessette; brother, Benjamin Edward Bessette of Whispering Pines, NC and sister, Bonnie Bessette of Whispering Pines, NC. He was preceded in death by a sister, Belinda Bessette Doliber of Swan Island, Maine.
He owned the wonderful and very popular Sleddon’s Restaurant in Southern Pines, NC for twenty years.
Butch enjoyed all sports. He was an avid sailor, skier and top ranked croquet player. He was a talented wood worker. He could craft anything from picket fences to fine teak boxes, chests and trunks.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The North Carolina Zoo Society, 4403 Zoo Parkway, Asheboro, NC 27205 or to the Foundation of First Health, 150 Applecross Road, Pinehurst, NC 28374.
Services are entrusted to Boles Funeral Home of Southern Pines.
