Robert Lee Smith (Bob, Smitty or Pop) passed away Sunday, September 29, just short of his 96th birthday. Born in North Carolina to Sidney Smith and Nellie (Carter) Smith on October 13, 1928.

Bob was proceeded in death by Christine Smith, his wife of 67 years, who passed on February 21, 2024. He was a loving husband who never missed a day visiting his wife in memory care with her favorite cookies or treats. He is survived by his two sons, Robert (Lois) Smith and Roger (Robin) Smith and his 5 grandchildren Rob (Justine) Smith, Rick (Daya) Smith, Rachel Smith, Spencer Smith and Sydney (Ben) LoPrimo.

Bob graduated from Elon College with a business degree and started his career with JC Penney in management, before establishing his own company as a manufacturers rep in the textile industry. He possessed an incredible work ethic and a “work smart” attitude that allowed him to sell his company (to his son Roger) and retire at the age of 52. He spent the rest of his years playing tennis (regularly until age 90), enjoying winters in Florida with Christine, and summers in Ohio with his family. His lasting legacy is reflected in his sons and grandchildren who he taught the importance of family, good work ethic and the ability to fix almost anything themselves. Bob never met a stranger, always had a story to tell, and laughed until he cried. He and Christine had long beautiful lives and will forever be missed.
