Martha Ann Kittrell died on Monday, October 7, 2024. A worship service will be held in her memory at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, October 11, 2024, at Maybank Baptist Church (27 J.C. Bryant Road – Hattiesburg, MS). Visitation will be held beginning at 9:30 a.m. until 15 minutes before the service.
Martha Ann was born in Charlottesville, VA, born on October 18, 1940 to Rev. & Mrs. Kenneth M. Hayes. She was raised in Virginia and Maryland and graduated from Wake Forest University. She married William Jonathan Kittrell in 1964 after a total of sixteen weeks dating and engagement – those sixteen weeks turned into 56 years of marriage until Bill’s death in 2021. Bill and Martha Ann eventually settled in Hattiesburg, MS in 1978. Martha Ann was a homemaker the majority of her life. When she did work outside the home, she was a school teacher, church secretary, retail cashier, and white-glove inspector for Big K Food Stores. She was a charter member of Maybank Baptist Church serving as the church pianist for over forty years from 1978-2018. For many years, she had the privilege of judging Bible drills for the Mississippi Baptist Convention on the church, associational, and state level.
Martha Ann is preceded in death by her husband, by her parents, and by one brother-in-law and sister, Richard & Caroline Ruth Hayes Ramirez. She is survived by her only child, Jonathan David (LeighAnne) Kittrell of Ellisville, MS, and by two granddaughters, Madison Leigh “The Queen” and Ann Marie “The Princess” Kittrell. She is also survived by one brother and sister-in-law David K. & Mindy Hayes of Catonsville, MD, two sisters-in-law, Patsy Kittrell Howard and Lequita Kittrell, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
