Mary Jo Neal, 85, of New Albany, Indiana, formally of Scottsburg, Indiana, passed away on October 6, 2024, at Baptist Floyd Hospital in New Albany, Indiana. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Mary Jo was born on August 31, 1939, in Buckhorn, Kentucky to the late Joe Smith and Polly Jane (West) Smith. Mary Jo was a 1958 graduate of Austin High School. On May 15, 1959, she married Billy Jack Craig who proceeded her in death on October 21, 1996. Mary Jo was a dedicated member of her community, serving as Vienna Township Assessor for many years. On June 3, 2001, she married Kenneth Neal, and he survives. In her personal life, Mary Jo found joy in her family and faith. She attended services at the First Christian Church in Scottsburg. She enjoyed crocheting, sewing and loved to bake, bringing her pies and custard to family gatherings. She played bridge with her friends for many years. In addition to her parents and first husband, Jack, she is preceded in death by three brothers, Brownlow, Jess and John Smith; her sister, Ara (Smith) Campbell; and a step-granddaughter, Kayla Spaulding. She is survived by her loving husband, Kenneth Neal; daughter, Cindy (Scott) Howser; son, Bob (Lisa) Craig; grandchildren, Rachel (Craig) Roberts, Jordan (Sarah) Howser, Emily (Torrey) Winchester, Natalie and Sydney Craig; great-grandchildren, Jack, Zoe, Judd and Caroline; step-children, Timothy (Shawn) Neal, David (Melissa) Neal, Deanna (James) Spaulding; step-grandchildren, Andrew (Mary Beth) Spaulding, Maddie Spaulding, Emmalee (Zach Rouff) Neal, Nelson, Grace (Luke Matthews) Neal, Mary (Dawson) Clark, Anna Neal, Sarah Neal; and step-great-grandchildren, Gentry, Liam, Lincoln and Drew. Her memory will forever be cherished by her family and friends. Funeral service for Mary Jo Neal will be held on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, at 2:30 pm at the First Christian Church of Scottsburg, Indiana with Phil LaMaster and Matthew Craig officiating. Visitation will be prior to the service on Wednesday starting at 11:00 am, at the First Christian Church of Scottsburg. Burial will follow the services at Scottsburg Cemetery. Memorial donations can be made in Mary Jo's name to aid the victims of Hurricane Helene in Sarah Weddle Howser's hometown to The Carter Compassion Center in c/o Collins Funeral Home.
