Larry G. Mayes Obituary

Larry G. Mayes, 73, passed away in the loving comfort of his home on Monday, October 7, 2024. Born on July 20, 1951, in Lock Haven, he was the son of the late James E. and Martha A. (Biggans) Mayes. On July 17, 1976, in Clarence, he married Trilby E. McKean. Trilby survives at home.

Larry was a 1969 graduate of Bald Eagle Area High School. He started at Penn State University in the Wage Payroll program and worked his way up to being an OPP Supervisor, retiring after 24 years of service.

Larry loved the outdoors so much. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and ATVing. He was the founding force of the Snow Shoe Rails to Trails which just celebrated its 25th year of creation. He always had a camera in hand capturing the comradeship of years of fun and work, documenting the progress of the Trail and the many group rides.

Larry was a life time member of the Philipsburg Elks and took special pride in helping to create the SSRTA Trailhead and connection to the Elks.

He loved his God, family, friends and his many pets through the years.

Larry leaves behind his wife, Trilby (his partner in crime) and his one and only loving daughter, Marissa (Mayes) Bartley along with son-in-law, Jon Bartley and two beautiful granddaughters, Piper and Paige Bartley who owned his heart. He is also survived by two brothers, Ken and Gary Mayes.

He was preceded in death by his sister Connie (Mayes) Tyger.

There are no services planned at this time.

Because of his love and commitment to the SSRT, those considering a memorial contribution are encouraged to consider The Snow Shoe Rails to Trails P.O. Box 314 Clarence PA 16829.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Daughenbaugh Funeral Home, Inc in Snow Shoe, PA. An online guest book can be signed, or you may post your condolences to the family at www.daughenbaughfuneralhome.com
