WAYNESBORO -- Daryl Don “DD” Gum, 78, passed away peacefully Sunday (October 6, 2024) in his home surrounded by his family.
Born June 21, 1946 in Churchville, he was a son of Marlyn Lee and Leola Jane (McManamay) Gum. He was a 1964 graduate of Buffalo Gap High School. Daryl worked as an electrician for DuPont and retired in 2003. He was a member of Stonewall Rifle and Pistol Club and Shenandale Gun Club.
In addition to his parents, Daryl was preceded in death by his brother Robert C. “Bobby” Gum. He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Carolyn (Landes) Gum; and a daughter, Meghan Gum and her spouse Defines-hamidah Fineout from Charlottesville.
A funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday, October 10 in St. James United Methodist Church in Churchville, officiated by Pastor Lester Kennedy. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Defines-hamidah Fineout, Earl Lunsford, Todd Fitzgerald, Steve Morris, Gary Michael, and Jim Berry.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 9 at Bear Funeral Home.
