Mrs. Joyce Lucille Barfield, 78, of Gloverville, SC, wife of the late Petty Officer First Class William Barfield, Jr., United States Navy Retired, tragically passed away on Sunday, September 29, 2024, as the result of a housefire.

Born in Aiken County, SC, she was the daughter of the late James and Carolyn Holsonback Wise. A Navy wife, she was fortunate enough to see various places and make friends anywhere she went. She formerly owned her beauty salon and was employed by Rose’s.

She was a dedicated Gloverville First Baptist Church member and loved to hear Dr. Joe Youngblood bring forth the word. Joyce enjoyed playing cards with the girls on Friday night card night. She also enjoyed crocheting and working on crossword puzzles. However, nothing made her happier than preparing holiday meals for her family (she cooked enough for an army, and you never went home hungry) and trips to the cabin in Maggie Valley with friends and family.

Joyce is loved and will be greatly missed by her children and their spouses, Kelly and Craig Carter Steven, Elizabeth Barfield, and Kenneth Carter, ten grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren, other relatives, and countless friends.

She was also preceded in death by sons Neil Barfield and Mike Barfield and siblings Linda Holsonback, Mike Holsonback, Phyllis Moyer, and EllDee Wise.

Death takes the physical person; however, memories are eternal. We take comfort in knowing she has returned home to her Lord and Savior.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Sunday, October 17, 2024, at 2 o’clock at the V.F.W. Post 1060, 250 Hudson Rd., Aiken, SC.

Considering her love for animals, especially Chihuahuas, memorials in memory of Joyce may be made to the Albrecht Center for Animal Welfare. (www.letlovelive.org)
