Charles E Ellerbe Obituary

Bishop Charles Edward Ellerbe was born July 13, 1953 in Dillon South Carolina. He was one of five children of Leon and Evelyn Ellerbe. He came to New York at an early age and attended the New York City Public School System.

Bishop Charles was a great lover of music and was always willing to teach others how to play. At an early age, Bishop Ellerbe started singing with his father’s group (The Sensational Gospel Wings), along with other noted gospel groups. His love for music gave him a desire to teach others and he also enjoyed writing music.

Bishop loved the word of God and his teaching and preaching was anointed and a blessing to others.

His life was a testimony of worship and praise to God Almighty.

Charles Ellerbe was converted at an early age and was a member of the Evening Star Baptist Church, later joining his mother’s church “Open House Deliverance for All People”, located at 390 Evergreen Avenue Brooklyn N.Y. He was called into ministry, ordained, and remained under the leadership of his mother and father, who preceded him in death.

Minister Charles was elevated to the office of Bishop and served in this office until God called him home on September 29th, 2024.

Bishop Ellerbe transitioned with his loving family at his bedside. He joyfully accepted his call to Glory after many years of physical suffering, but during this time, his spiritual side was always uplifted and never wavered, as he sang and prayed daily. Bishop cherished his wife Pastor Gloria Ellerbe, a true soldier of Christ who, along with his caring children, were all dedicated to him during his illness.

Bishop was married to the love of his life Gloria McLeod Ellerbe, and this union was blessed with three children, one son, Romel Ellerbe, who preceded him in death, and two daughters. He was a devoted family man and his wife and children were his whole world.

He leaves to mourn a devoted wife, Pastor Gloria Ellerbe, two loving daughters, Lamar White, and Alice Ellerbe, both of Brooklyn NY, one brother, Minister Eric Ellerbe, and his wife Nicole of Virginia Beach, two sisters Margarite Williams of Georgia, and Glennie Davis of New Jersey, one Son-in-Law Michael White of Brooklyn NY, and Daughter-in-Law Shalanda Ellerbe of Georgia.

Also cherishing his loving memories are his Sisters-in-law Reverend Martha Bridges, and Evangelist Patricia Manning, along with her husband Reverend William Manning, Evangelist Gwendolyn Hudson, Reverend Hector McLeod, and Barbara McLeod.

Bishop also leaves to mourn six loving grandchildren, Neziah, Makayla, Sha’riayeah, Laneya, Madison, and Michael Jr.

Bishop‘s memories will be held in the hearts of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
