She was in the Rainbow Sorority and also a member of the Daughters of the Nile. Marilyn started her civil service career at Iowa City VA Hospital. She was later transferred to Pensacola, Florida. While there, she met her husband, Howard (Skip) Koenig.

On August 10, 1974, Marilyn was united in marriage to Howard (Skip) Koenig at St. John Lutheran Church, Sumner. Following their marriage, they returned to Pensacola where Skip was stationed. In 1975 they were transferred to Jacksonville, Florida. They spent three years there before being transferred to Iceland. While in Iceland, they toured the island, driving across glaciers, seeing many beautiful waterfalls, and enjoyed camping and fishing with family. Later they returned to Pensacola. Marilyn worked as a budget analyst for the Housing Department as a GS11. She spent 36 years working for federal civil service being fortunate to be hired at each new duty station. Skip retired from the Navy in 1985, at which time they resided in Pensacola. They remained there until her retirement from service in 2002.

After Marilyn’s retirement, they purchased a motorhome and became full-time campers. Skip and Marilyn lived 5 years in their motorhome while traveling across the United States, Canada and Mexico. They would spend their summers in Sumner and winters in Florida or Arizona. In 2009, they purchased a home in Sumner, where they remained since.

Marilyn liked to sew, making baby blankets, and embroidering dish towels. She loved to play solitaire, dance, cook and bake. She also enjoyed a good western movie. Marilyn treasured spending time with her family.
