Lillie Welsh Obituary

On January 17, 1942, a precious creation from God was born to the late Dorothy Mae Hamilton and the late L.J. Lewis. The bundle of joy was a true gift to all of us who knew and loved her.  Her name was: Lillie V. Welsh

God saw fit to end all suffering and pain by calling her home to Him on September 29, 2024.

She was born in Idabel, OK.  Lillie moved to Kansas City, KS at the age of seventeen.  She began working for a Central Bag company.  She joined Philadelphia Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Flemming. Lillie was a dedicated member of the church, teaching Sunday school and actively working with the youth choir.

She met the love of her life Cladies (C.W.) Welsh, SR., and was united in holy matrimony on November 1, 1979.

In 1989, She moved to Tarry, AR with her husband and joined New Macedonia Baptist Church, under the leadership of the late Carl Williams Sr.  Later, Rev. Charles Helloms Jr. became the pastor.

In the mid 2000’s, she joined Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Charles Hellums Jr. She loved going to church, Sunday school and bible study. She loved her pastor and the President of the Usher Board, Sister Doris Holmes.  She was an active and faithful member of the usher board and choir until her health began to decline. 

Lillie's passions were fishing, reading the Bible, crossword puzzles, baseball and basketball.  Her favorite baseball team was the Atlanta Braves and Kansas City Royals.  Her favorite basketball team was the Arkansas Razorbacks. She Loved spending time with friends and family.  She also loved working puzzles.

She was preceded in death by: Her mother (Dorothy Mae Hamilton); her father (L.J. Lewis). Her grandfather Therodore Hamilton. Her husband (C.W. Welsh); Her brother (Lee Andrew Simmons); Her niece whom she helped raise and loved as her own daughter (Tanita Jackson); and her grandson (Ondre Durham, Jr)and a niece Yvonne Townsenl.

She leaves to cherish her loving memory: Two nieces-that she helped raise and loved as her own daughters: Tyesha (Ondre) Jackson-Durham, Kansas City, MO; Tausha Jackson, Kansas City, KS. Two nephews whom she loved as her own grandchildren: Jonathan Durham, Kansas City, MO, Juan Durham, Kansas City, KS. Two sisters whom she loved dearly Wanda (Clarence)Polk, Star City, AR and Benita Hamilton, Kansas City, KS.  Five brothers: Terry Hamilton, Kansas City, KS; Carols (Dana) Hamilton, Bonner Springs, KS; Frizell Hamilton, Kansas City, KS; Richard Hamilton (Berniece) Hamilton, Rowland Park, KS; Wendell (Sharon) Hamilton, Independence, MO. Niece, Juawana (Carl) Jackson, Pine Bluff, AR. A Great nieceTyonnia Jackson, Kansas City, MO. A sister-in-law Teronda Hamilton, Powder Springs, GA. Three best friends: Gloria Nelson, Helen Welsh, Ora Nelson, Joyce Murry and Rev. James Murry. Six grandchildren and two great grandchildren. And a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
