Valley Springs, SD ~ Farrell E. Sirovy, age 94, died on Friday, September 14, 2018 at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, September 19, 2018 at Spirit of Truth Lutheran Church in Brandon, SD. His family will be present to greet friends for visitation from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Tuesday, September 18 at the George Boom Funeral Chapel in Brandon. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Spirit Of Truth Lutheran Church in Brandon. Farrell Sirovy, son of William and Ruby (Fawcett) Sirovy was born December 23, 1923, in Jackson, Minnesota. He lived his entire early life in Jackson and graduated with the class of 1941. He served during WWII before earning his honorable discharge in April of 1946. He spent time in the European Theatre and fought with the 66th Infantry Division in the Battle of the Bulge. He was united in marriage to Hazel Beck on August 3, 1944. Following his military service, he returned home and he and Hazel farmed and owned a corn shelling and trucking business. He worked for John Morrell & Company in Estherville, Iowa from 1957 until 1972 when he transitioned to the Ottumwa, Iowa plant until 1974. He retired from the Sioux Falls plant in 1988, but consulted with Morrell’s and other companies during his retirement. Farrell was an avid hunter and fisherman who loved spending time outdoors. The time spent outdoors with his children and later his grandchildren was always cherished to him. He loved training dogs and had many hunting dogs throughout his life. Farrell was a lifetime member of the VFW. He also enjoyed riding his motorcycle on cross country trips. He belonged to bowling leagues for many years. Farrell held his pilots license for many years, and was a good harmonica player as well. Of all the hobbies and joys in his life, family was number 1 and he was a proud grandpa and great grandpa. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Hazel Sirovy of New Franklin, MO; children, Farrell Lee (Mary Lou) Sirovy of Ruthven, IA, Barbara (Taylor) Woods of New Franklin, MO, Kenneth (Barbara Jibben) Sirovy of Versailles, MO, Aaron (Anne) Sirovy of Renner, SD, and Kevin (Suzanne) Sirovy of Valley Springs, SD; 8 grandchildren, Brenda (Brian) Bjorum of Valley Springs, SD, Sheila (Paul) Langlotz of Booneville, MO, Farrell W. Sirovy of Ruthven, IA, Paul (Tracy) Siegel II of Florence, MO, Brett (Kerri) Sirovy of Ruthven, IA, Joshua (Katie) Siegel of California, MO, Jennifer (Jacob) Snyders of Garretson, SD, and Brittany (Alex) Dawson of Sioux Falls, SD; 14 great grandchildren; and brother, William F. (Evonne) Sirovy of Jackson, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Allen Sirovy; sister, LaVonne (Raymond) Nielsen; and great granddaughter, Brianna Bjorum.
