Lussettie Barnes Henderson was born in Magnolia Mississippi to the late Thomas Barnes and Dinah R. Dillon. She passed away peacefully on September 19, 2024, at the age of 79. Lussettie received her early education in the Magnolia School System and graduated from Eva Gordon Attendance Center High School in 1964 where she was a member of the basketball and track teams. Upon graduating, she attended Prentiss Institute in Prentiss, Mississippi.
Lussettie relocated to Hartford, CT and then to Chicago, IL where she earned an associate degree from Malcolm X College. She was employed as a Lab Technician at Southside Hospital for many years. Upon returning to Hartford, Lussettie worked at Community Health Services (CHS). She later became a phlebotomist and retired from Quest Diagnostics in 2015 after a 40-year career in the medical field.
Lussettie was baptized at an early age and believed in God's love and HIS teachings. While in Mississippi, she was a member of Pink Hill Baptist Church and joined Union Baptist Church where she raised her children and taught them to serve and love the Lord. Lussettie was involved with many church ministries. She taught Sunday and Vacation Bible Schools, served as a Girl Scout Leader and was a member of the Trustee Board. She also found time to volunteer in the church's weekend breakfast program. She loved to sing and enjoyed singing praises of Zion and traveling with the Jackson Gospel Choir.
Lussettie was an excellent seamstress and created outfits with or without a pattern. She shared her sewing talents with family, friends, and clients. Her other talents included smiling and laughing! A favorite pastime was visiting local farms to purchase fruits and vegetables. In 2018, Lussettie relocated to Pflugerville, TX where she became a member of Sweet Home Baptist Church-The Pinnacle of Praise in Round Rock, TX. She participated in the Adult Sunday School and the Women's Ministry.
Survivors include her children, Carl D. (Stacey) Henderson, Gary (Quana) Henderson and Linette (Aristede) Hill all of CT; her grandchildren, Randall (Chaylse) Henderson of OR, Zaria Henderson, Kyle Henderson, Eriq Lindsey Henderson and Savon Hill, all of CT, and Asaundra Hill of Washington, D.C; her great grandchildren Makai and Kylin Henderson: her goddaughter, Shantae Giannantonio of FL; her sisters Hattie Brown, Lucy F. Hughes, Delois Barnes, and Debra (Raymond) Wilcher; her brothers Zeberdee (Gwen) Barnes, TJ (Sharon) Barnes, McTerry (Laverne) Barnes, Bobby (Maria) Barnes; the extended Barnes Family; nieces, nephews, and special cousins; cherished friends Beatrice Redding, Evelyn Williams, Phyllis McKenzie, and Debra Sams.
Predeceased family members include her parents and sisters Clara Simmons, Herley Gulledge, Mildred Burns and brothers Ezell and Burnell Barnes.
