Mark Steven Henderson, Jr. Obituary

It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Mark Steven Henderson, Jr., age 28, of Asheville. Mark passed away Sunday, September 29, 2024, after two weeks in Mission Hospital’s ICU, with his family by his side.

Mark was born May 25, 1996, in Raleigh NC to Steve and Shawn Henderson. He attended elementary and middle school in Zebulon NC. In 2010, at the age of 14, he moved with his family to Asheville NC where he completed Middle School and graduated from AC Reynolds High School class of 2014. After high school, he attended Appalachian State University in Boone and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in 2018. Throughout his life, Mark made many wonderful, lifelong friends at school and work.

His favorite hobbies included anything to do with cars and technology. He worked at Cinnabon and Best Buy during his high school years and then with Enterprise (in Boone while at ASU and in Asheville during summer vacations), and after graduation. In 2020, Mark went to work with Aeroflow Health in Asheville, where he remained employed until his untimely death.

Mark was amazing, kind, smart and funny. Over his too-short life, his friends describe him as loyal and someone who would regularly check in with them, especially during difficult times in their life. Those who love him have said they feel their life will be forever changed by having known Mark and there will be a huge hole left in their hearts without Mark’s daily contact and love.

In addition to his parents, Mark will be lovingly remembered by his sister, Taylor Brown and husband, Kenny of Burnsville; nieces and nephew, Elizabeth, Lorelai, and Luca; grandfather, David Setzer of Old Fort; and numerous very special relatives and friends. Mark is preceded in death by his grandmother, Elizabeth Henderson of Wendell, NC, who he was very close to.

The family would like to send a special thank you to hundreds of family members and friends for the overwhelming number of prayers, love and support shared over the past two weeks. The memories shared by everyone who has been a part of Mark’s life are a comfort during this extremely difficult time.

A Celebration of Mark’s life will be held at a later date and will be announced in advance on social media.

Mark was an advocate for the underserved and anyone in need. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make a donation in Mark’s memory are asked to consider making a donation to the charity of one’s choice.
