Ray Dell Evans, of Portland, Oregon, died September 29, 2024. He passed away at home with his loving family nearby the day after celebrating his 84th birthday.
He was born on September 28, 1940, in Cedar City, Utah, to Dell J Evans and Annie Loretta Baker. He grew up in North Creek, Beaver, Utah, working hard on his family’s farm settled by early pioneers. After graduating from Beaver High School in 1958, he enlisted in the United States Air Force.
Ray married Flossie Linda Foster on May 31, 1963, in the Idaho Falls Temple after a pen pal courtship while he was stationed in Japan. He was transferred to the Portland Air Force Base, and they settled in Portland after he was honorably discharged. They had five children: Scott, Rita, Kristine, Roger, and Kathy.
He had an aptitude for anything mechanical and started working for National Cash Register (NCR) repairing cash registers and then later on repairing scanners and computers. He continued working for NCR until his retirement in 1993.
Ray’s hobbies included camping, hunting, backpacking, 4-wheeling, leatherwork, fixing clocks, and collecting all sorts of treasures. He loved being with his family and enjoyed “fixing most anything” for his kids and grandkids. One of his favorite activities for many years was to lead hikes while serving at Girls’ Camp each summer.
Ray is survived by his loving wife of 61 years Flossie Linda Evans, Portland, OR; son Scott Ray (fiancée Kathy) Evans, Portland OR; daughter Rita Evans (William Nephi) Amdal, Portland, OR; daughter Kristine Evans (Lloyd) Lyman, Nampa, ID; daughter Kathy Evans (Ryan) Petersen, Hood River, OR; eight loving grandchildren; twelve beautiful great-grandchildren; brother Elmer (Karla) Evans, Beaver, UT; sister Shirleen (Dennis) Bond, Meadow, UT; brother Carlyle (Kari) Evans, Beaver, UT; and brother Brent (Gail) Evans, Cedar City, UT.
