Cynthia "Cindy" Mae Clarke (Spies) Obituary

Cynthia “Cindy” Mae Clarke, 70, of Hedgesville, passed away Sunday, September 29, 2024, at home surrounded by the loving embrace of her family. Born May 19, 1954, in Martinsburg, she was the daughter of the late Clyde V. Spies and Evelyn Herman Spies.

Cindy graduated from Hedgesville High School in 1972 and went on to attend James Rumsey Technical Institute, where she was honored as the Outstanding PBL Clerk Typist in 1973. Throughout her career, she held several office and administrative assistant positions, including roles at the IRS, VA Medical Center and the local school system.

Cindy was of the Seventh-day Adventist faith. She was a wonderful, hardworking and generous woman who loved her family and enjoyed cooking, baking, crocheting and helping others. Her warm smile and joyful spirit brought happiness to all who had the privilege of knowing her. Cindy cherished every moment spent supporting her children and grandchildren in their school activities and sporting events. She was a true “mother” to many, always ready with a hug, a snack and an abundance of encouragement. Cindy’s legacy will live on through the countless lives she touched with her kindness, her unwavering work ethic and her abiding love. She will be deeply missed, but her memory will forever be a blessing to her family and friends.

She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Harvey “Danny” Clarke; one son, Brian Clarke and wife, Jenny, of Martinsburg; one daughter, Jessica Pflieger and husband, Derek, of Hedgesville; three grandsons, Braxon Clarke, Holden Clarke and Layne Pflieger; one granddaughter, Kyla Mae Pflieger; five brothers, Wayne (Lois), Glenn (Tillie), Donald (Tina) David (Sandi) and Daniel (Michelle); two sisters, Rev. Barbara Spies and Deborah Shickle (Terry); and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Stanley Spies.

The family would like to give special thanks to Hospice of the Panhandle for the care and compassion they provided during this difficult time.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m., Sunday, October 13, 2024, at the Martinsburg Seventh-day Adventist Church with Pastor Tom Boggess and Pastor David Livergood officiating. The family will receive friends 1:30 – 3 p.m., prior to the service.
