Bruce Weaver Obituary

Bruce Haven Weaver² passed away at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro, NC with his wife, son, daughters, son-in-law, and granddaughter on September 29, 2024, at the age of 72. He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years Heidi Sigrid Weaver (née Neptune), his children Jonathan Bruce Weaver, Julia Sigrid Weaver, and Kelsey Tena Weaver Meyers (née Weaver), and his grandchildren Morgan Frank Neptune Weaver and Heidi Ruth Meyers. Bruce was born in Seattle, WA. His family moved multiple times during his childhood and adolescence. He lived in Bardenton FL. where he attended Southeast High School for two years.  Eventually the family settled in Lakeland, FL where Bruce graduated from Kathleen High School. After high school, Bruce earned an electronics degree at Tampa Tech and worked on traffic lights. He then attended Southern Adventist University in Collegedale, TN where he met his wife Heidi, then transferred to Southwestern Adventist College in Keene, TX where he completed his BA in Theology. Continuing his education, Bruce went on a 3-week Holy Lands Study Tour, visiting Rome, Egypt, Istanbul, Syria, Israel, and Jordan. Bruce was able to witness the natural phenomenon at sunset on Mt. Sinai the book of Exodus calls “The Burning Bush.” Bruce then attended Seminary at Andrews University at Berrien Springs, MI. Bruce’s research in Seminary led him to play a vital role in unearthing plagiarism of contemporary Theological works in foundational Adventist texts. Bruce pastored several congregations in Louisiana. Bruce later left the Ministry and worked for Canon in their copier division, serving the Southeastern territory as a Field Service Technician, permanently settling in Greensboro, NC where he raised his family. Bruce did extensive genealogy research on his maternal family line and was active in the Valdres Samband, an organization of Norwegian descendants, where he served as President for 6 years as well as editor of Budstikken, their journal. Bruce was a lifelong educator, teaching Religious Education with his wife at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Greensboro, NC and leading Coffee and Conversation, an adult Religious Education program, for 20 years at Fellowship Presbyterian Church in Greensboro, NC, always drawing from his continued research in Theological, Cultural, and Archaeological topics. Bruce never stopped researching the origins of Adventism, his methodology was meticulous, often requiring travel to uncover rare documents and records. Bruce also did 18th century living history reenactment and interpretation with the Guilford Militia. Bruce enjoyed astronomy and photography and had many other interests, each of which he researched, appreciated, and shared with others with the same depth as his Religious Studies. Bruce loved music, especially The Beatles who were a large part of his life. He even went to Liverpool, England on his own pilgrimage. Bruce enjoyed playing the piano and professionally recorded some of his original compositions. He will be sorely missed by many. Bruce’s family requests that in lieu of gifts or flowers to please consider donating in his memory to any of the following organizations: Valdres Samband, 8014 Olsen Memorial Highway Box 263, Golden Valley, MN 55427; Norsk Carolina – Sons of Norway, 1811 Mecklenburg Ave, Charlotte, NC 28206; and the Religious Education Program at Fellowship Presbyterian Church, 2005 New Garden Rd, Greensboro, NC 27410. A Memorial Service in the form of a Celebration will occur in February 2025, details will be shared by his family.
