David Earl Krause Obituary

David Earl Krause, 81, of Oklahoma City went to be with the Lord September 29, 2024. He was born on January 26, 1943 in Healdton, Oklahoma to Jacob and Joy (Raper) Krause.

He graduated from Capitol Hill High School, a devoted Redskin, in 1962. He proudly served in the United States Army from 1962-1965. After his military service, he worked at Tinker Air Force Base as an electrical technician on airplanes for many years. Then working as the head of the finance department for Hudiburg Auto Group for over 15 years. After “retiring”, he ran a mail route for Mallard Construction for several years.

David married the love of his life, Shirley Walton, on February 1, 1967. He and Shirley were very athletic and enjoyed “friendly” competition: bowling in their early years, and avid golfers the past few decades. David coached Shirley in their church leagues for softball and basketball making for some lively dinner conversations. They were married for 52 years.

David will certainly be remembered for his great sense of humor and quick wit. He had a knack for making people feel special. As his grandson put it, “He was everybody’s biggest fan!” He was a sharp dresser and loved a good pair of shoes. He may have been the world’s biggest Elvis fan. Always the life of the party and loved to sing. He was a wonderful host. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

He is survived by his sister, Mary Burns; son, James Van Winkle; daughters Janet Moran (Kevin); Julia Donaldson (Darrin); grandchildren, Lindsie Guthrie (Scott); Amanda Smith (Caleb); Luisa Anderson (Caleb); Andy Johnson, Penny Van Winkle, Payden Donaldson, Madison Fairweather (Tom); great-grandchildren: Paris, Braxton, Ashlyn, Tryston, Preston, Olivia, Kinsley, Mason, Jed, Rory, Logan, Aidan, and Lovey (#14 arriving 2025); and many nieces, nephews and family that were special to him as well.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Lloyd Hayer, Billy Arthur Hayer, Jake Krause; grandson Kyle Belt; and his wife, Shirley.
