Fred (Freddie) Paul Vargas Obituary

Fred (Freddie) Paul Vargas was born on September 10th, 1927 in Randlette, Utah.  On September 30th, 2024 he spirited away from his earthly body to dance with abandon on the streets of heaven.

Freddie’s first job was as a grocery store clerk at Skaggs in Vernal.  He joined the Navy in 1945 and served as a cook, a “swabby” and a Tugboat Seaman.  Following his time in the service, Freddie started truck driving across the country.  He tried his hand at many occupations which even included trying to start his own church.  Freddie had a spark for life like nothing you have ever seen. He loved spending time with family and friends, telling stories of old, and reminiscing about all the mischief he got into.

Freddie loved music.  He woke up with a song in his heart every morning and sang himself to sleep at night.  He could dance to every 1950’s love song ever written. He also had a love for all things horses.  He was amazed at their beauty and their sheer strength.  He loved to ride and just spend time with them. Freddie enjoyed long car rides and seeing all the beauty that God had created. He had an avid interest in history, and he wasn’t particular about what kind of history or time in history.  He truly loved the history of EVERYTHING.  He would always stop at every road sign along the journey just to read the history of the area. He had bookshelves full of encyclopedias and would spend hours reading them. John Wayne and Gary Cooper made frequent appearances on his television.  During visits from family and friends, Freddie would make the room swallow in laughter with jokes that he had remembered.  Reading took him away to places he always wanted to visit or adventures he dreamed of going on. He had every Louis L’ Amour book and was so proud of that. He hated yard work, housework, really any kind of work for that matter.  However, he was real quick to help get the tool for you, so you could do the job. He wanted to constantly have fun.

He is survived by his wife, Joannie, his children, Alisa (Paul), Nance, Lorin D, and Crystal (Blake). Many grandchildren and great grandchildren and many cherished nieces and nephews. He is rejoicing now in glory with his parents, brothers and sisters and his beautiful daughter Janeene.

A celebration of life will be held at St Paul’s Parish House 226 W. Main Street Vernal, Utah on October 19th, 2024 from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm. As Freddie prioritized finding joy in life and sharing it with others, the family asks that you do the same - go out and do something that brings you real joy and share it with those around you.
