It is with deep sadness that we announce that Carol Marie Thompson, nee Breinig, born February 1, 1929 to Jessie Anna (McConnel) and Harry L. Breinig, passed peacefully in her sleep, on September 29, 2024, age 95. She and our father Alfred J. Thompson (Joe) were married from October 1, 1949 until his passing in 2008. She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings; son-in-law Richard J. Phelan, and Cecelia (Cissie) Howe, the youngest of her five children. Survivors include children Mary Susan (Steven) Ford, Barbara Phelan, Melinda Thompson, A. Joseph Thompson (Edi), and her youngest half-sister, Beth (Breinig) Nelson. Also several extended family members.
Carol was an avid gardener, great cook, enjoyed long walks, hosted delightful parties. Active at St. James in Maywood, Carol participated in church and school activities, and led a Junior Great Books group for many years. Strong, wise, and loving, her creativity, personality, intellect and humor endeared her to family and many lifelong friends.
Memorial Mass will be held at St Petronille Church 420 Glenwood Ave. Glen Ellyn, Illinois on Tuesday, October 15, 11 a.m.
Light luncheon to follow in the Church P.L.C.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages a donation to DuPage County Care Center at dpccfoundation.org. in honor of Carol.
