Hulene graduated from Chattanooga, Oklahoma High School in 1961. She attended Cameron University, where she met her eventual husband, Jerry Wade. Their union produced her two children, daughter, Alicia Barber (Wade) and son, Terry Wade. At various times she resided in Colorado, New Mexico and Texas, but she spent most of her life in Oklahoma, always repeating the line that her father would say, "It's good to be back in God's country." She resided near Porter Hill Oklahoma for many years and was employed at the Comanche County Health Department for 30 years. She developed lifelong friendships with co-workers and was proud to be part of a team providing service to the community. She always had an excellent work ethic and spent countless hours providing care for her parents as they aged. In addition to her work at the Health Department, she was active in working to maintain a farming operation. She always worked extremely hard to provide for her family and her work ethic and ability to save was an inspiration to her family.
While she was a devoted worker, her real passion and joy came from her commitment to her family. She loved nothing more than being a Grandparent. Upon becoming a Grandmother, she began insisting that everyone refer to her as Grandma. For a while it was almost a little embarrassing for some family members for her to tell virtually anyone she met, from the stands at a ballgame to a grocery store, that everyone just called her Grandma, but over time it became an endearing trait. From countless ballgames, stock shows, plays, and any type of event her grandchildren were involved in, she was always excited to go and support them. Over the past few years she had the joy of becoming a great grandparent to Noah Barber, Eli Barber, Rankin Benedict, Brazos Benedict, Teagan Benedict and Wade Harris. Her excitement and joy in being able to be a part of their lives and provide for them was a blessing to her family.
Hulene was preceded in death by her parents, Hugh and Faye Wilson; her sister, Cindy Wilson; and by her daughter, Alicia Barber.
She is survived by her sisters, Jean Huddleston and Darlene Thompson; her son, Terry Wade; her grandchildren, Kasey Simmons-Barber, Tristan Benedict, Chance Barber, Holly Wade, Tara Harris, and Luke Wade; and her six great grandchildren.
