Ann Rose Schenck, 86, of Burr Ridge, IL, died Monday, October 1, loving mother of Tom, Jeff, Kathy (Jim) Price and Peg (Mark) Boutchia, and beloved GrAnnie to Emily, Nora, Lindsay, James, Matthew, Brook, and Anna. Ann is also survived by her sister Jean (David) Evans and brother Jim (Diane) Rose, her sister-in-law, Joan Schenck Leavitt, niece Robyn Rose and nephews Drew and Matt Evans and Hussein and Karim Ibish. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Peter H. Schenck, and her parents, Richard and Katherine Rose.
Ann was born in Chicago on Jan. 18, 1938. Ann lived most of her life in Clarendon Hills, IL – first with her parents and siblings, then later with her husband and children. She graduated from Hinsdale Township High School Central in 1956, then earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Northwestern University in 1961. She and Peter met at Northwestern and were married at Community Presbyterian Church in Clarendon Hills on April 8, 1961. She worked as a nurse for a doctor in Hinsdale before she and Peter left Chicago to follow Peter’s work, returning to Clarendon Hills in 1978.
Service was central to Ann’s life. She was a lifelong Presbyterian, serving her congregations on committees and in leadership roles, as well as creating beautiful banners and handbell music. She represented Community Presbyterian Church of Clarendon Hills at the Presbytery of Chicago. Ann also served the Village of Clarendon Hills as a village trustee in the 1980s and 1990s. She also served on the committee to celebrate its 75th anniversary in 1999 and its 100th anniversary in 2024. Like her mother, Ann was active in the Infant Welfare Society of Chicago, and was a member of the Clarendon Hills chapter for over 40 years.
Ann was a longtime member of Ruth Lake Country Club, where she honed her golf game with family and friends, and represented Ruth Lake in numerous tournaments and serving on the Womens Golf Board. She was an avid quilter, creating many quilts for her family, friends and community, and an active member of the Faithful Circle Quilters and Centennial Quilters guilds. In addition, she was an active member of the County Line Questers.
She became a diehard fan of the Chicago Cubs in 1945, following the team faithfully on the radio, TV, at Wrigley Field, and for over 40 years at Spring Training in Arizona. She was present at Carlos Zambrano’s no-hitter in 2008 and relished the Cubs winning the series in 2016. Go Cubs Go!
