Alberta “Bert” Mitchem Barwick, 86, of Charlotte, passed away on Monday, September 30, 2024, at her home.

Bert was born in Lowell, North Carolina, where she grew up with her ten brothers and sisters. She later raised three beautiful children in the Coulwood Community of Charlotte. Over her career, she had many different jobs, and retired from Charlotte Health Care as a medical records specialist.

Bert was always the life of the party, brightening every room she walked in, filling it with laughter and smiles. She loved bird watching, growing flowers in her gardens, taking spontaneous road trips with her sisters, reading every Mitch Albom book, enjoying meals with family, and spending time with her grandchildren.

Bert is survived by her children, Sara Dugger and husband Dean of Tallahassee, FL, Bill Barwick and wife Vika of Greensboro, NC, and Jan Belter of Cornelius, NC; sister Mache Mitchem of Wilmington, NC; grandchildren Greg Dugger and wife Sarah, Rebecca Owens and husband Justin, Matthew Belter, Katharine Moore and husband Lewis; great-grandchildren Skyler Owens and Claretta Moore; and many nieces and nephews.

Bert was preceded in death by her parents Wade Worthly and Sarah Kate Lewis Mitchem, siblings Katie Stepp, Wade Mitchem, Barbara Rhyne, Zeke Mitchem, Nellie Abernathy, Luther Mitchem, Jennie McMillan, Gladys Coleman and Peggy Miller.
