James Arthur Donich, 84, residing in Oak Harbor, passed away Tuesday morning, October 1, 2024 at Firelands Regional Medical Center.

Jim was born on March 10, 1940 in Sandusky, OH to the late John and Helen (Antalik) Donich.

Jim was a Veteran of the Coast Guard who proudly served his country from January 6, 1959 to January 5, 1965. He was employed with the Ohio State Parks for thirty six and a half years until retiring in 1991, and the Kelley's Island Ferry Company for 13 years. Jim was a member of AMVETS Post 17, American Legion Post 83, the Park Managers of Natural Resources Alumni and a charter member of the Oak Harbor Fraternal Order of Police. In his spare time, he enjoyed boating, fishing and hunting.

Jim is survived by his wife, Elaine (Baer) Donich, whom he married on April 15,1960. He is also survived by his son, Daniel C. (Jenny) Donich of Lakeside Marblehead, OH; his daughter, Rhonda (Samer) Alkharrat of California; five grandchildren; sister, Patricia Ward of Sandusky; a brother, Richard (Linda) Donich of Marblehead, OH.

Jim is proceeded in death by his parents, and sister, Jean Kehwecker.

Friends may call on Sunday, October 6th, 2024 from 2-5 p.m. at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky. Prayers will be held on Monday, October 7th, 2024 at 9:30 a.m. at the Funeral Home followed by a Mass at 10 a.m. at Holy Angels Catholic Church, Sandusky, Ohio. Entombment will follow in Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron, Ohio.
