Lois D. Lowry, 94, formerly of Mechanicsburg, PA, died September 30, 2024, at Arbor Terrace in Exton, PA. Born April 6, 1930 in Stonycreek Twp., Somerset Co., daughter of Fred and Gladys (Knepper) Darr. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Donald J. Lowry, her parents, her sister Phyllis, and her brothers, Wayne, Fred, and Robert. Survived by her children: Don, married to the former Rita Vavro; Joe, married to the former Shira Siegel Grabenstein and previously married to Donna (Cattie) Lowry, deceased; and Dr. Stephen Lowry, married to the former Bella Germinario. Grandchildren: Brian (Keverene) Dmochowski, Patrick (Miriam) Lowry, Ethan (Catherine) Lowry, Michael Lowry, William (Mallory) Lowry, Tory (Ryan) Rhodes, Julia Grabenstein, Josh Grabenstein, Lilia Grabenstein, Emily (Daniel) Potts, Sean Lowry, Daniel Lowry and Caroline Lowry. Sister: Barbara (Daniel) Manges, Sisters in law: Lois Darr, Mary Eileen Darr and Mary Ann Lowry. Great grandchildren: Brian Dmochowski,Ashleigh Dmochowski, Ava Dmochowski, Camilla Marie Rhodes and Jace Ryan Rhodes, and many nieces and nephews. She was a 1948 graduate of Somerset High School and a 1952 graduate of The State Teachers College at Indiana, now IUP. Lois was a past President of the Women’s Auxiliary to the Pennsylvania Medical Society. She taught high school art in Clairton, PA before retiring to have children, and served as the graphic designer for the State Auxiliary Magazine.  After her children were grown, she became a realtor, leading the development of a 65-home subdivision called Hedgerow near Lisburn, PA. She was a joyful and enthusiastic friend and enjoyed decades-long friendships in Fair Oaks, their neighborhood, for more than 50 years.  She especially loved annual trips to Florida with her husband Don, and to Deep Creek, MD with their friends.  She enjoyed playing golf, loved playing bridge, and was a wonderful storyteller. Family was especially important to her, and she treasured annual family reunions. She was a dedicated, loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.  She will be sorely missed. Viewing from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. Saturday, October 5th, at St Mark Lutheran Church in Shanksville, Service at 11:00 a.m., Pastor Kathy Stump officiating. Interment at Walker Cemetery in Shanksville. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Mark Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 130, Shanksville, PA 15560.
