Joseph Michael Kolbas Obituary

Joseph Michael Kolbas, age 86, of Erie, passed away on Tuesday, October 1, 2024. He was born in Erie on March 11, 1938, son of the late Michael and Anna (Lynch) Kolbas.


Joseph was a 1955 graduate of Cathedral Preparatory School and a veteran of the US Army. He worked for Bucyrus Erie and then was employed by the City of Erie as Purchasing Agent for 18 years prior to retirement in 2003. Joseph was a member of the Slovak National Club for over 50 years, currently serving as treasurer. He was also a member of the Fulton Club and Mother of Sorrows Parish. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed gardening.


Joseph is survived by his wife of 38 years, Joanne Carol (Wittman) Kolbas; three children: Sherry Wieczorek, Patricia Rabbitt (Thomas), and his beloved daughter, Tina Dinger; two grandchildren: Stacey Wieczorek and Matthew Wieczorek; five great-grandchildren; three siblings: Lillian Kolbas, Michael Kolbas (Sally), and Sr. Roseann Kolbas, O.S.B.; and many nieces and nephews.


In addition to his parents, Joseph was preceded in death by one sister, Ann Marie Wykoff, and one grandson, T.J. Wieczorek.


Friends may call at the Dusckas Funeral & Cremation Services Harborcreek, 5151 Buffalo Rd. (at Hannon Rd.) on Friday, October 4th from 4 to 7 PM and are further invited to attend a Funeral Mass on Saturday at 11 AM at Holy Family Church, 913 Fulton St, Erie, PA 16503.
