Thomas H. Munroe Obituary

Thomas H. Munroe, 80, son of the late Herbert J. Munroe and Myra "May" (Moulton) Munroe, passed away peacefully on September 29, 2024, at Kaplan House Hospice Care after a brief illness.

Tom was born in Gloucester on February 27, 1944, and attended Gloucester schools. Tom was born with disabilities but, despite his limitations, he enjoyed bowling and loved shooting pool at the old Nick's Pool Room on Main Street and, in later years, at the Senior Center. Tom, a true gentle soul, was kind-hearted, quick-witted, and knowledgeable about a host of topics. He was a big fan of all kinds of music, enjoyed playing horseshoes and reminiscing with his siblings about the games of their childhood. He also loved going out fishing on his dad’s boat as a kid. Tom very much enjoyed building model cars and airplanes throughout his life until his eyesight failed, and always greatly enjoyed the family Fourth of July and New Year's Eve parties.

Tom was employed at the Ann and Hope in Danvers for 31 years, working in the back unloading deliveries. While employed there, Tom was recognized and given an award for saving the life of a co-worker who had fallen into the trash compactor and couldn't get out,

Tom is survived by his sisters, Geraldine Orlando of Gloucester, Marilyn Ramsey, wife of Philip, of North Carolina, Anne Winchester Martin, who was also his longtime caregiver and wife of Kevin Martin, of Gloucester, one brother, Herbert J. Munroe Jr., husband of Joanie, of Gloucester. He was predeceased by two sisters, Barbara Jean Munroe of Wisconsin and Janice A. Perry of Gloucester. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visiting hours at the Campbell Funeral Home, 61 Middle St., Gloucester, will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 9, from 4-7 p.m. Graveside services will be held at Beechbrook Cemetery, West Gloucester, on Thursday, Oct. 10, at 11 a.m. Arrangements by Campbell Funeral Home, 61 Middle Street, Gloucester.
