Phyllis Elizabeth Lucy Symons Obituary

Phyllis Elizabeth Lucy SYMONS

(nee PARKER)

April 11, 1926 - September 30, 2024

In her 99th year, Mama has very peacefully left this life to start her next life with God.

Phyllis Elizabeth Lucy Symons is predeceased by her loving husband, Kenneth Symons, baby daughter, Hannah, parents, Edna and Gordon Parker and brothers, Francis and Clarence. She is the beloved mother of Carrie Thompson (Paul), Robert Symons (Maureen), Mary Walker Hope (Mike) and Peter Symons (Christine). Her grandchildren Rachael Thompson (Corey), Cordelia Thompson, Justin Symons, Stephanie Symons (Kevin), Britney Hope (Matt), Steven Hope (Kat), Ryan Walker (Devin), Alicia Symons and Casper Symons will always remember her endlessly giving spirit … and her baking. Four great grandchildren, Hann Hope, Isaac Hope, Luke Walker and Ruby Walker, have brought GG (Great Gramma) such joy in her 90s and even when words were not the easiest, the sparkle in GG’s eyes and the way her face lit up said it all.

Phyllis has left a legacy of love, lessons and strength in her passing. She was a lifelong educator, an ardent advocate for Fair Trade, a dedicated keeper of the family tree, and a staunch believer in the importance of family and community gatherings. Showing up for others, (often with something freshly baked), was at the heart of everything Phyllis did. From church events and fundraisers to birthdays and graduations, there was no school play or concert recital too small for Mama/Gramma Symons, and she passed those values on to her children and grandchildren by way of living example.

Phyllis was also an avid globetrotter, having visited more than 27 countries between the ages of 65 and 96. Knowing her appetite for learning and discovery, there's no doubt in our minds that while she smiles down on all of us at this time, she's already enjoying her next great adventure.

We extend our thanks to the incredible staff in the ICU unit at Belleville General Hospital. Their tireless efforts and care for our family allowed us to devote these last few days to looking after mom.

Thank you to Crown Ridge Place in Trenton, which was her home, who have compassionately cared for our mom over the past two years.

Visitation for Phyllis will be held at the Ross Funeral Chapel, 135 Walton Street, Port Hope on Friday, October 4 from 5:00 to 8:00 pm.

Funeral service will take place at New Hope United Church, 4651 County Road 2, Port Hope on Saturday, October 5 at 11:00 am followed by interment at Welcome Cemetery. Celebration Reception will follow back at New Hope United Church.

If desired, donations may be made to New Hope United Church.
