Jeffrey T. Roethe Obituary

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Jeffrey Towne Roethe, on September 29th, 2024 due to complications from pneumonia and acute leukemia. Affectionately known as “Buddy” by his family, Jeffrey was born on August 10th, 1944, in Edgerton, Wisconsin, and spent his life deeply connected to the community he loved.

A proud alumnus of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Jeffrey earned a degree in history in 1966 and obtained his Juris Doctor from the UW-Madison Law School in 1969. It was in Madison that he met the love of his life, Carolyn Kay Hogan, whom he married in 1969, and their loving union of 55 years was a testament to their commitment to one another.

Shortly after their marriage, Jeffrey and Kay embarked on a journey in the military, serving from 1969 to 1973 in the Army’s Judge Advocate General’s Corps. It was during this time that they welcomed their first son, Matthew, while stationed in Monterey, California, in 1971. Following his service, Jeffrey returned to Edgerton to practice law for his family law firm, dedicating his career to serving his community with the same devotion he gave his family. His legal practice allowed him to connect with many people, earning him the respect and admiration of his peers and clients alike.

In 1978, Jeffrey and Kay’s family grew with the birth of their son Andrew, and in 1982, they welcomed their youngest son, Patrick. Jeffrey was a loving father and a stalwart Badgers fan, passionate about Wisconsin sports and always eager to lend a helping hand to those in need. Jeff was a member of the Edgerton Rotary club, foundation chairman of the Edgerton Hospital, and was the Edgerton Municipal Judge, among other activities. Jeffrey and Kay traveled the world in their spare time, and he was known as an avid dice shooter in Las Vegas and across the Midwest.

Jeffrey leaves behind his beloved wife Kay, his three children Matthew (Laura), Andrew (Kelly) and Patrick (Christina), five grandchildren Miles, Caroline, Jackson, Kate and Jack and is also survived by his brother John and sisters Judy (Ebbott) and Jane (Witt). His legacy of kindness, dedication, and community spirit will be cherished by all who knew him.

The Roethe family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Agrace Hospice Care in Fitchburg, SSM Health Care / St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison, Edgerton Community Hospital and Foundation, and Harborview Medical Center in Seattle for their compassionate care during these difficult times.

A visitation will be held at Albrecht Funeral Home in Edgerton, Wisconsin on Friday, October 11th, from 3-5 PM,with a short service at 5 PM.  The service will be followed by a celebration of life at 1848 Tavern in Edgerton, Wisconsin. www.albrechtfuneralhomes.com

Buddy will be deeply missed but never forgotten. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and the Edgerton community that he so faithfully served.
