Robert J. Civitello, age 87, of Lake Barrington, IL passed away peacefully at home on Monday, September 30, 2024.
Robert was born in Brooklyn, NY on February 4, 1937 to Vincent and Margaret Civitello, the third of four children. Throughout his life he would remain nostalgic about his days growing up on 28th Street. He became a competitive handball player and was passionate about baseball, once being offered a minor league contract for a farm team in Alabama.
He later joined New York’s Finest and was honored for resuscitating a young man drowning in Prospect Park’s Lake.
Robert is survived by his loving children, Donna, Vincent (Roseann) and Therese (Michael) as well as his cherished 13 grandchildren. Also surviving is his dear sister Diana Tapley of Savannah, GA and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Frank and sister Florence.
A visitation for Robert will be held from 2pm until 4pm on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, at Davenport Family Funeral Home, 149 W. Main Street, Barrington, IL 60010.
A second visitation will be held in Brooklyn NY from 9am to 10:30am on Saturday, October 5, 2024, at Andrew Torregrossa & Sons, Inc. Funeral Home, 2265 Flatbush Ave. Brooklyn, NY 11234. A mass will immediately follow visitation at Saint Bernard R.C. Parish, 2055 East 69 Street Brooklyn, NY 11234.
Internment will follow the mass at Holy Cross Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Robert’s name may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
