Jack D. Strisko, 89, of Whiting, passed away peacefully on the morning of Monday, September 30, 2024 at the William J. Riley Memorial Residence, Munster. He is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Judy (nee Boskovich); cherished father-in-law of Ralph “Kevin” Coleman; dearest brother-in-law of Robert and Therese Boskovich; dearest uncle of Regina (Bill) Mercer and Lori Broughton; dear great uncle of Matthew Mercer and Ryan (Edith) Willoughby; proud great, great uncle of Isabella T. Willoughby; lifelong friends, Don and Josie Bolek; devoted caregiver, Linda Miller and canine caregiver, “Hemi”.  He was preceded in death by his daughter, Nancy M. Coleman; parents, Paul and Mary (Toth) Strisko; brother, Robert P. Strisko; niece, Diyan Strisko Wiseman and parents-in-law, Steve and Marie Boskovich.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 5, 2024 at 10:00am with a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 119th Street and Lincoln Ave., Whiting, with the Rev James Dvorscak, officiating; interment of cremains to follow at St. John Cemetery, Hammond; memorial visitation at the Baran Funeral Home, 1235-119th Street, Whiting, on Friday from 3:00 to 7:00pm; members of the parish will offer prayers at the funeral home on Friday at 4:00pm. Jack Strisko was born on April 20, 1935 and was a lifelong resident of the Whiting-Robertsdale Community. He was a graduate of Whiting High School, Class of 1953 and was a US Army Veteran. A dedicated member of the Knights of Columbus, Pope John XXIII Council, 1696 (prayers, Friday at 6:00p.m.), Jack served as the hall manager for 17 years, was a bingo volunteer for 10 years, served on the Columbian Club and participated with the bowling league. Jack was affectionately known as “Captain Jack” of the Baran Funeral Home bowling team for many years. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Whiting, the American Slovak Club, the Association of the 3rd Armored Division Veterans, the Standard Oil Annuitants Club and was a retiree of the Ford Motor Co., Chicago with a service of 30 years. He was “Santa’s Helper” for the Whiting K of C and the St. Joseph Carmelite Guild for many years and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. Jack enjoyed time with family and friends, especially a good dinner at a fine restaurant. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Nancy Strisko Coleman Scholarship Fund, c/o the Whiting-Robertsdale Chamber of Commerce, 1417-119th St., Whiting, IN 46394 or the SHARE Foundation for the Handicapped, would be appreciated.
