Fred James Bednarz,

Saginaw Twp., Michigan.

Beloved husband, father and brother passed away Tuesday, October 1, 2024 at MyMichigan Medical Center. Age 76 years. Son of the late Fred and Emily (Krawiec) Bednarz, Fred was born October 18, 1947 in Detroit, Michigan. He proudly served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam from 1967 to 1968 in combat infantry. Fred received his bachelor’s degree at Eastern Michigan and Master’s Degree at University of Michigan. He married Nannette M. (Metevia) Neitzke, his loving wife of 35 years, on February 11, 1989. She survives him. He was a social worker for the State of Michigan for 36 years, retiring in 2010. Fred was a member of the Catholic Faith. He was a lifelong union member and activist. He enjoyed boating, fishing, home repair, gardening and yard work.

Surviving besides his wife Nannette are two sons, James Bednarz, Saginaw and Steven Bednarz, Novi; his sister, Nancy Buczynski, Southgate, Michigan; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Fred was preceded in death by a sister, Cynthia Shady and his brother, Ronald Bednarz.

Funeral service will take place at 12:00 noon Saturday, October 5, 2024 at the Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Rd., Saginaw, Michigan. Rev. Fr. Steven Gavit will officiate with Military Services conducted by American Legion Post #439 and the U. S. Army. Friends may visit at the funeral home where the family will be present on Friday from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until time of service. Honoring Mr. Bednarz wishes burial will take place in Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly, Michigan. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to Leukemia and Lymphoma Foundation, Wounded Warriors Project, Hidden Harvest or your favorite charity.
