Services for Richard “Rick” Eugene Hecker, 75, of Lakefield, MN, formerly of Sherburn, MN, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 4, 2024, at the Kramer Family Funeral Home in Sherburn, MN. Burial will be following the service in Sherburn Cemetery in Sherburn, MN, will full military honors by Thomas P. Saxton American Legion Post #356 and the Sherburn Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #8261. Visitation will be one hour prior to the time of service from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 4, 2024, at the Kramer Family Funeral Home in Sherburn. Rick passed away Sunday, September 29, 2024, at Lakes Regional Heath Care in Spirit Lake, IA. The Kramer Family Funeral Home of Sherburn is assisting the family with arrangements.

Richard “Rick” Eugene Hecker was born on August 26, 1949, in Heron Lake, MN. He was the son of Willis and Sonja (Peterson) Hecker. Rick attended Heron Lake public school and later graduated from Sherburn High School.

On November 20, 1968, Rick enlisted in the Army. He achieved the rank of Sergeant and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal before earning his honorable discharge on November 4, 1971.

Rick worked in construction for much of his career as well as driving concrete trucks for Gould’s in Sherburn. He was a member of the Sherburn Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8261. During his free time, Rick enjoyed hunting, fishing, and woodworking. He most loved the time he was able to spend with his grandchildren.

Left to cherish his memory include his partner for life, Betty Mogensen of Lakefield, MN; daughter, Misty (James) Ronellenfitch of Sheldon, IA; grandchildren, Daenton Ronellenfitch, Lilly Thompson, and Alicia Ronellenfitch; brothers, Jim (Sue) Hecker of Minneapolis, MN, Bob (Bonnie) Pruett of McGregor, IA, and Paul Hecker of Arizona; many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Along with his parents, Willis and Sonja Hecker, Rick was also preceded in death by his daughter in infancy, Kelly Hecker; brother, Wayne Hecker; uncle, Don (Anita) Hecker; and aunt, LaVone (Sullivan) Celeen.
