Ray Vernon Lawhorn Jr. age 77, of Temple passed away peacefully at his residence on Sunday, September 29, 2024. He was born on November 08, 1946, to parents Ray Vernon Lawhorn and Deyon Cornell Akin in Temple.
He attended Temple High School and after graduating went on to further his education first at Temple Junior College and then Abilene Christian University. Ray served our nation by joining the U.S. Navy from 1969 to 1973. After fulfilling his patriotic duty to our country, he went on to pursue his next phase of his life.Ray met the love of his life Judy Ann, and they were married on August 6,1977. They remained devoted to each other and built their family here in Temple until to her passing. Ray was affiliated with the Church of Christ and also the First Methodist Church. Ray worked for the Temple Daily Telegram until his retirement.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Judy, his parents, and his parents-in-law.
Ray leaves behind to cherish memories made through all his years here on this earth; his two sons Kevin and Eric Lawhorn, sister Janice Lawhorn Williamson and husband Dick, sister Lorie Lawhorn Mann and husband Glenn, sister-in-law Donna Dixon Martin and husband Billy, as well as four nieces and five nephews. He also leaves behind to mourn his passing his beloved dog, Lucy. All family and friends will deeply miss him, but the times spent together will always remain in their minds to offer comfort in this time of sorrow.
There will be a graveside service held on Friday, October 4, 2024, at 11 o’clock at Bellwood Memorial Park in Temple, Texas. Upon completion of the service there will be a viewing before final interment.
