Robert Armstrong Obituary

Robert Armstrong

Bob was born July 16, 1961, to Robert and Marjorie Armstrong. He was raised on Beaver Island and in the Battle Creek area. His childhood resembled Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn adventures with his brother Clay and their friends. He graduated from Gladstone High School, Bay de Noc Community College, as well as Western Michigan University majoring in Chemistry, with minors in physics and mathematics. He earned his Doctorate from Northwestern University, and a post doctorate degree from Rush Medical College of Chicago. Dr. Bob was a beloved dentist in Cheboygan for decades.

He married Gerri Anne Mysliwec of Grand Rapids, and they were blessed with two daughters, Monica, (Alexandra and Kristen), Paige (Travis) Elowsky, and a grandson Coleson Elowsky. He is also survived by his mother Marjorie of Beaver Island, Sisters Roselyn (Rocky), Jo, brother Clay (Dawn). Siblings-in-law Steve, Mike, Mary Jo, Paul, Dan and Jim. Several dozen nieces and nephews. Countless friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert, and brothers-in-law Roger Anderson and Bob Mysliwiec. He was very proud of his military service and was a dedicated member of the Knights of Columbus as a past Grand Knight and a fourth-degree member.

He was proud to become Papa Bob to his grandson Coleson and was honored to bear this title for over a year. Bob enjoyed time with his family, his hobbies, and his friends. He had so many hobbies that friends joked “Dr. Bob moonlit as a dentist in between fishing, woodworking, and storytelling.”

Bob asked us not to feel sad at his death, but to feel happy that he is no longer in pain and is waiting to wash the feet of Jesus.

In lieu of flowers, Bob’s family asks for donations to the Cheboygan Area Music Program or Cheboygan Area Art Program  P.O. Box 100, Cheboygan, MI 49721, for which Bob was an avid supporter.

We invite you to Bob’s visitation, held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 120 N. D Street in Cheboygan on Friday, October 4th at 5:30 PM with a vigil service at 7 pm, rosary to follow. The funeral will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church on Saturday, October 5th. The visitation will begin at 11 am and the funeral at 12 pm, followed by the burial at St. Francis Cemetery and a luncheon at the Knights of Columbus Hall. The service will be conducted in the spirit of celebrating the long and happy life of Bob. Please wear something bright and cheery to commemorate such a kind and warm person.
