DR. HUGH N. HENNING Obituary

Dr. Hugh N. Henning, 90, of Piqua, more recently of Lewis Center, passed away at 5:05 a.m. Monday, September 30, 2024. He was born January 22, 1934 in Piqua to the late Elwood and Olive (Jennings) Henning. He married Nancy M. Andress January 26, 1963 in Elyria; and she survives.

Other survivors include three children, Abbe (Greg) Williams of Chicago, Illinois, Heather (Thomas) McCauley of Lewis Center, Scott Henning of Denver, Colorado; eight grandchildren, Claire Williams, Ryan Williams, Alexander Williams, Sean McCauley, Matthew McCauley, Kate McCauley, Andrius Henning, Mykolas Henning; and one great grandchild, Harper Williams.

Dr. Henning was a 1951 graduate of Piqua Central High School. He then attended The Ohio State University where he earned his BA in English in 1955; his Doctorate of Dental Surgery in 1958; and his MSc Dentistry in Periodontics in 1962. He served his country proudly in the United States Navy from 1955-1965 where he was stationed in San Diego, Port Heuneme, and Iwakuni, Japan. He retired from the Navy as a Lieutenant Commander. He had a thriving Periodontal practice in Dayton, Ohio for 38 years. He was a proud member of the Delta Sigma Delta Fraternity, Ohio Dental Association, American Dental Association, American Academy of Periodontology and Midwest Academy of Periodontology. He was President of the Dayton Dental Society 1971-1972, and Charter President of the Ohio Academy of Periodontics.  He was also a member of Warren Lodge #24 F&AM. He was an avid snow skier in the winter and enjoyed river rafting in the summer. He loved the Great Plains and took time to share his love of this Country with family through trips across the west exploring our National Parks. He spoke fondly of his time in Japan often sharing memoires of the people and places where he spent his time. Upon retirement, Hugh spent 18 wonderful years in Summerlin, Nevada. There he honed his skills of bread baking and gourmet pizza makings`. One of his greatest joys was his family. He adored his wife of 61 years, Nancy, and was very proud of his children and grandchildren. He will be missed dearly!

A service to honor his life will begin at 12:00 p.m. Saturday, October 5, 2024 at the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home with Rev. Will Leasure officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery where full military honors will be provided by the Veterans Elite Tribute Squad. Visitation will be held from 11:00-12:00 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
