Troy Bishop Obituary

Troy Bishop, age 85, passed away peacefully following a lingering illness on Monday afternoon, September 30, 2024 at McLaren Bay Region. The son of the late Arthur and Jenny Bishop, he was born on October 19, 1938 in Milledgeville, Tennessee. Just prior to the start of the Vietnam War, Troy enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. There he learned computer programming, and upon his discharge he went to work with IBM. He was a programmer for them for 30 years, working in different locations throughout the country. Troy always enjoyed working with numbers, and shortly after his retirement from IBM he went to work as a pit boss in casinos in Mississippi and Michigan, lastly at Kewadin Casino and living in St. Ignace before moving to Bay City some years ago. He stayed active as a member of the American Legion and was a life member of the VFW and Moose Lodge and was affectionately known as “Dad” to all his friends at the Whyte Goose Inn. Troy enjoyed hunting and motorcycling and was a member of the Tri-City Travelers Motorcycle Club.

Troy is survived by his four children, Cynthia Bishop (Ralph Trepkowski, Jr.), Sheryl (Russell) McKerchie, Paula (Ken) Scherwin and Mike Bishop; and 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Troy was also preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Bishop; and his 11 brothers and sisters.

It was Troy’s desire for cremation to take place. A private family celebration of his life will be held later. Funeral home arrangements are being provided by the Trahan Funeral Chapel. For on-line sentiments, please go to: www.trahanfc.com
