It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, Veronica Ann McTague, of Spring Lake, NJ. She died peacefully at home with her family on Friday, September 30th, 2024. Born and raised in Chatham, NJ “Vern” was an avid athlete in high school and is a graduate of the Academy of St. Elizabeth, Convent Station. Vern went on to nursing school at St. Michael’s School of Nursing, Newark, NJ. Growing up, Vern summered in Belmar and Spring Lake. It was there that she met Kenny McTague and soon married. They moved to Loch Arbor with Vern’s daughters, Sharon Kanary Hart and Suzanne Kanary, and shortly added an additional daughter, Moira Francis McTague. After several years Vern moved the family permanently to Spring Lake to care for her parents and raise their family.
Vern loved to travel, entertain and was involved in many charitable organizations. She worked tirelessly for many years on the James F. Ackerman Federation of JSUMC. She received many awards and accolades. Vern was a charter member of the Jersey Shore Chapter of the Women of Irish Heritage, as well as a lifetime member.
In recent years, Vern was blessed to have long time friend and companion Vincent Harris to enjoy her final chapter in life.
Veronica McTague is predeceased by her husband, Kenny McTague, her parents, Frank and Kathryn Crouchley, her sister, Cappi Trost and her brother Eugene Crouchley.
She is survived by her daughters, Sharon Hart (Ken) of Lanoka Harbor, Suzanne Kanary of Pittsburgh, PA and Moira Scholl of Bradley Beach. Also surviving are her 8 grandchildren, K. Ryan, Bridget (Craig) and Kelsey (Tyler), Collin and Garrett, Ryley, Eoin and Delaney and their father Patrick, and one great grandson, Gavin. She also leaves her beloved sister-in-law, Kathleen Hindman of Wall Twp.
Visitation will be on Friday, October 4, 2024 from 9:30am until the time of the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30am at St. Margaret’s Church, Corner of 3rd and Ludlow Aves., Spring Lake. Committal will be private at the convenience of the family.
