Joann Alice Shipe, 43, passed away peacefully at home the evening of September 30th with the love of friends and family surrounding her.
Joann was a proud resident of Fauquier County and a 2000 graduate of Liberty High School. She earned a degree in accounting at Christopher Newport University in Newport News, Va. Joann is preceded in death by her father Richard Glover and mother in law Peggy Shipe. She is loved and missed by her husband, Stephen Shipe, two children Derek(10) Taylor(8), parents Adelaide and Arnie Summitt, father-in-law Steve Shipe, 7 siblings, 23 nieces and nephews, a large extended family, and countless friends.
Joann was active in the cheer community for many years. She was part of a state champion team at Liberty High School in 1999, a member of the CNU Cheer squad, numerous competition cheer teams, and culminating with a state title and coach of the year honor as head coach at Kettle Run High School in 2015. She worked for several cheer organizations as both an instructor and judge. Through her participation in cheer she touched numerous lives and left her mark on the cheer world.
The highlight of Joann’s life was supporting her children as both a baseball and cheer mom. She spent numerous hours volunteering for youth teams and attending both baseball games and cheer events. As a true cheerleader at heart, Joann was an avid fan of all her children’s teammates and an instant friend to numerous baseball and cheer families. She will be greatly missed by many.
Family will receive friends at Moser funeral home Thursday, October 10th from 5pm-7pm. There will be a funeral Mass at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church at 11am Friday, October 11th and an interment at Mount Carmel Baptist Church in Midland. A Celebration of Life will be held at Ritchie Lake Pavilion immediately following.
