Fred W. Stunkel, 93, of Stamford passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Tuesday, October 1, 2024. He was born in Greenwich on June 21, 1931 to the late Hans and Martha Hinuber Stunkel.

Fred was a graduate of Greenwich High School in 1949. Joined the US Navy in 1951 through 1955. Married Sylvia in 1952. Fred was a retired member of the IBEW Local #3 having worked as an Electrician since 1955. He was a past member of the Stamford Shellfish Commission; active in Stamford sports with his children and grandchildren as a Little League Coach and was a recreational bowler and golfer. Fred was past president of the Stamford Chapter of the AARP, and lifetime member of the Halloween Yacht Club in Stamford. Fred was also a member of the Norwalk Stamp Club and a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church.

Fred is survived by his devoted wife, Sylvia Beeghly Stunkel, his loving children, Bruce Stunkel and his wife Janet, Barry Stunkel and Kitty Malvase, Sally Kyker and her husband Robert, Bonnie Stunkel Adams and her husband Brien and Brian Stunkel, as well as seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends may call at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford on Monday, October 7, 2024 from 4:00-8:00 PM. A funeral service will be celebrated on Tuesday, October 8, 2024 at 10:00 AM at the First United Methodist Church, Cross Road, Stamford. Interment will follow at Putnam Hill Cemetery, Parsonage Road, Greenwich.
