Funeral services to honor Velma Lee's life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, October 4, 2024, at Hargis Baptist Church, Montgomery with Pastor Doug James officiating. Burial will follow in Hargis Baptist Cemetery, under the direction of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home, Alexandria.
Visitation will be held on Friday, October 4, 2024, at Hargis Baptist Church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
Velma Lee Jones Fletcher, born on September 5th, 1937 in Dodson, passed away Tuesday, October 1st, 2024, in Alexandria.
Velma Lee touched the lives of all who knew her. She enjoyed cooking for her loved ones and was known as a true servant, always putting others before herself.
Velma Lee worked as an Operator for BellSouth, as a Direct Care worker at Pinecrest Developmental Center, a Hostess at Don's Seafood, for many years, and was also an Avon Representative. Her dedication extended beyond her professional life, as she was a past member of the Montgomery Town Council and a faithful worker and supporter of the Ward 7 Medical Clinic in Montgomery. She was an avid gardener, finding joy in nurturing her plants and flowers. She found solace and joy in fishing, spending countless hours casting her line, and enjoying the peace that the water brought her.
Throughout her life, Velma Lee was described as a feisty woman who was full of life and always ready to lend a helping hand. She will be deeply missed by her nephews, Nardie Harrison, Melvin Harrison (Teresa), Ron Jones, and nieces, Janis Jones (David), Connie VanBibber (Terry), and Debra Beasley (Mike); her dear friend, Wanette Credeur; numerous great nieces and great nephews, and a host of other family members and friends.
Velma was preceded in death by her husband, Carrol Fletcher; parents, Lee Otis Jones and Viola Buchanan Jones; brothers, Ellis Wayne Jones, and Ronald G Jones; brother-in-law, Bernard Harrison; sister, Olene Harrison; sister-in-law, Barbara Jones; nephew, Greg Jones; great nephew, Trey Harrison, and niece, Kim Arceneaux.
Pallbearers honored to serve will be Nardie Harrison, Melvin Harrison, Mike Beasley, Mark Jackson, Steve Jackson, and Todd Fanguy.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hargis Baptist Church or Hargis Cemetery Association at 1313 LA-122, Montgomery, LA 71454.
