It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of Carol K. Donnelly on September 30, 2024.
Carol entered this world on Christmas day, December 25, 1930, a gift to Sophie and August Klebeck, Polish immigrants of Proctor Vermont. She lived each day as a Vermonter at heart, and was proud of her Polish heritage.
After high school, Carol attended Albany Medical College School of Nursing where she received her RN degree in 1951 and met some of her closest lifelong friends. It was in Albany where she also met her husband James Donnelly, a smart, handsome and fun-loving law student who was attending Albany Law School.
Carol and Jim settled in Glens Falls where they raised five children and she quickly made his hometown hers as well. In the early 60's Carol served as "First Lady” of the city while her husband was mayor fostering a lasting connection to Hometown USA and the people she would meet.
Carol worked as a Nurse for Glens Falls Hospital, Continental Insurance Company and did private duty nursing for many families, establishing lasting bonds with her patients and their families. For years, she worked as a poll worker on election days and volunteered as Treasurer of the Warren County Children's Committee.
She made friends wherever she went and kept those friendships alive with frequent phone conversations (though never during Jeopardy). She loved to entertain and share drink and a good joke. Whether it was gatherings at the camp in Vermont, luncheon or dinner parties with her finest table settings, or visits on her side porch, her guests felt her genuine warmth and connection.
Carol was most proud of the large and caring family of five children, twelve grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren that she and Jim created. Her home was adorned with family pictures of each and with gifts to her from them proudly displayed as well.
In addition to her parents, Carol was predeceased by her husband, James T. Donnelly, Sr; her brothers, August Klebeck, Edward Klebeck (June); her son in-law, Stephen Pieper and her grandson, Maxfield Pieper.
She leaves behind her children, Nancy Pieper, Susan Higley (Gary), Janet Myette (David), Mary Schissel (Larry) and James Donnelly, Jr. (Jacqueline), and her many grandchildren, great- grandchildren and God children.
