Lucius “Wayne” Hensley, 76, of Elkton, VA went to be with the Lord on Monday, September 30, 2024, at the University of Virginia Medical Center.

Wayne is survived by his wife of 38 years, Teresa L. Hensley and their two children, Kory Tanner Hensley (Jenna) and Nikki Hensley Huff (Mathew). Together, Wayne and Teresa were blessed with seven grandchildren, Devon Huff, Haelyn Morris, Mathew-Hosea Huff, Keira Hensley, Dawson Hensley, Piper Hensley and Knox Hensley. Wayne is also survived by son, Lucius Wayne Hensley, II (Karen); daughter, Martha Smith (Mike); grandchildren, Melia Shifflett (Jeremy), Triston Smith (companion: Brianna, children: Bryndle, Amelia); step-grandchildren, David Cline, Pamela Cline, Seth Smith; great-grandchildren, Kole Shifflett, Kasey and Kaelyn Shifflett (twins), Aiden Breeden; sister, Ellen Hensley Martin (Doug) and children: Jennifer, Jeremy and Jonathan.

Wayne was preceded in death by parents, Lucius G. Hensley and Marian Pence Hensley.

Wayne loved his wife and family, his church family, and his work family dearly. Growing up, Wayne was a member of the Evangelical United Methodist Church, with his parents, throughout his youth. Upon marriage, Wayne and his family became members of Elkton Evangelical Presbyterian Church, where he was an active member for over thirty years.

Wayne owned and operated Hensley’s Insurance Agency, for 33 years, in Elkton, VA. In his retirement, Wayne enjoyed driving the school bus for Rockingham County Public Schools and also worked alongside his son at Valley View Golf Carts.

The family will receive family and friends at Elkton Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 2580 Panorama Dr., on Saturday, October 5, 2024 from 5-7 p.m. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Sunday, October 6, 2024 at Elkton Evangelical Presbyterian Church at 3 p.m.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the medical staff of Sentara RMH and Hahn Cancer Center, as well as, the many medical teams that cared for Wayne at the University of Virginia Medical Center.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Elkton Evangelical Presbyterian Church or to the American Cancer Society.
