Elizabeth Ann McLaughlin (Sissy), born October 19, 1935, in Wilmington De passed away peacefully on Monday, September 30th, 2024, at Shipley Living.
Elizabeth was a special education teacher at Baltz Elementary School for over 35 years. She also lovingly cared for her brother, John McLaughlin, after her father, Mark McLaughlin, died.
After retirement, Sissy achieved her master's degree in education at Wilmington University and advocated for persons with disabilities within the State of Delaware. She lobbied for better treatment of the mentally challenged and the indigent. Sissy enjoyed encouraging education throughout the life span and took classes at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at the University of Delaware in Wilmington. Sissy also enjoyed sewing, quilting, watching tennis and classic movies.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her father, Mark McLaughlin; her mother, Mary Dugan McLaughlin; brothers, William, Mark, James, Peter, and John; and sisters, Katherine McLaughlin Kane, and Mary.
Sissy will be dearly missed by a host of nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the service at Krienen-Griffith Funeral Home, 1400 Kirkwood Highway, on Saturday, October 12th, 2024 at 10:00am. Visiting hours will be from 09:00-10:00, and interment to follow immediately at Saint Joseph on the Brandywine.
