Phyllis A. Owens, born February 21, 1940, left this world to go to her eternal home on September 30, 2024 surrounded by the love of her family at home. Phyllis was born in Harlan, Kentucky. She and her 10 siblings grew up in church and were raised to enjoy life and love the Lord. Phyllis became a wife to Glenn Owens in 1956 and they were blessed with 6 children. They lived in Cleveland, Ohio, Harlan, Kentucky, and then made it to Rose Hill, Virginia where they stayed to raise their children.
Phyllis’s upbringing played a huge role in the woman she became. She woke up every morning choosing to be happy; she was energetic, generous, loving, faithful, and was an incredible homemaker. She loved to make people laugh, go on walks, enjoy nature and explore the mountains with her grandchildren, and loved children. Phyllis had a special place in her heart for her grandchildren; she always made them treat bags, and at Christmas time she would fix eggnog for them as they gathered around to hear her read a Bible story.
Phyllis was loved by so many. Her smile could light up a room, her outspokenness brought humility and much back to the Lord, her presence brought happiness and excitement, and her love and faithfulness to the Lord was inspiring. Phyllis was a living example of what the Bible describes as a virtuous woman. Many would say that they hope to be a quarter of the woman she was or a servant to the Lord. She left such an imprint on so many who encountered her. Her family and others that loved her so, believe that no one could ever fill the shoes of Phyllis Ann. Forgiveness was something that came to be so easy for her. She was quick to ask for forgiveness or to forgive others. Her heart was full of love, and she made sure all those around her felt that love. She will be missed greatly.
She is survived by her children, Jeff Owens and his wife, Evie Owens, of Corryton, Tennessee Terrie Smith of Ewing, Virginia, Beverly Taylor and her husband, Alfred Taylor of Rose Hill, Virginia, Shelley Grabeel and her husband, Shannon Grabeel of Ewing, Virginia, and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and bonus grandchildren, her siblings Mary Collett of Gary, Indiana, Brenda Hall and Lacy Hall of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Pete and Sheila Short of Georgetown, Kentucky.
She is preceded in death by her husband Glenn R. Owens, two of her children, Linda Faye Long and Glenn Owens Jr., her granddaughter Jenny Taylor Seals, her mother and father, Denver and Goldie Short, and her siblings, Ernest Wayne Short, Patsy King, Beverly Brewer, Junior Short, Curtis Short, Lois Pace, and Gay Brett.
The pallbearers are Chase Smith, Jacob Hunley, Blake Long, Evan Womack, Nicholas Long, Kaden Seals, and Gary Hunley. Honorary Pallbearers are Jeff Owens and Kenneth Bowling.
