It is with deep sorrow and much love that the family of Dr. Dick Auld announces his peaceful passing on September 30, 2024, at the age of 75.
Dick will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 56 years, Sherry; daughters, Shannon and Shelly (Ben) Diaz; grandchildren, Eric (Nicole), Ryan, Madison, and Meghan; sister Rosalind Grizzell, brothers, Bob (Jan), and Larry (Janene), as well as numerous relatives and friends.
Dick was born on October 20, 1948, in Hobbs, NM. He married the love of his life, Sherry Jolly, in 1968 after meeting her at New Mexico State University. He earned his B.S. and M.S. degrees in Agronomy and a Ph.D. in Plant Science at Montana State University. Dick was a 2nd Lieutenant with the 101st Airborne Infantry in Vietnam. Dick loved his career as a professional educator and researcher. He spent his early years on the faculty at the University of Idaho and his last 25 years at Texas Tech University. The highlight of Dick’s career was guiding his graduate students down their chosen path. Dick loved fishing, hunting, and working on his property at Lake Alan Henry. His hellacious sense of humor and kind soul were cherished by anyone who knew him. Dick was truly a humble man who enjoyed uplifting those around him. He was one of a kind, and those who knew him will never forget his graciousness and generosity.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Texas Tech University’s Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources.
Dick wanted his final resting place to be the beautiful Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Angel Fire, NM. A military service for the family will be held there at a later date.
