Barbara Patricia Eassy Sida Obituary

Barbara Patricia Eassy Sida, of Athens, GA went home to be with her Lord on September 29, 2024 after a brief illness.

Known to her friends as “Pat or Patsy,” she was born on January 31, 1940 at St. Francis Hospital in Greenville, SC to Philip Salem Eassy Sr. and Fay Cauley Eassy. Pat was raised in Greenville and was the oldest of four children. She graduated from Greenville High School in 1957. She went on to earn her RN degree in 1960 after studying and training at Furman University and Greenville General Hospital School of Nursing.

Pat loved her country and served as a nurse in the United States Air Force. She reached the rank of First Lieutenant while stationed at Wilford Hall Hospital at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas.

She was married to Dr. Donald Wayne Sida in 1965. They gave birth to their first son, Wayne Brian, in 1966. They briefly resided in Columbia, SC while Don completed his doctorate at the University of South Carolina. In 1969, the family made their home in Statesboro, GA. Their second son, David Blaine, was born in 1970. Pat continued nursing during this period. It was in Statesboro that she met one of her lifelong friends, Mary McAllister.

In 1982, Pat moved to Athens, GA where she continued nursing at St. Mary’s Hospital. She worked caring for orthopedic surgery patients for a number of years, but ultimately was led to the hospital nursery where she loved caring for newborn babies.

After retiring, Pat remained active as a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Athens. She thoroughly enjoyed traveling the world on cruises with her close friends and family. She marveled at European architecture, particularly the old cathedrals. Pat was also a talented artist. Her drawings of family members, babies, and surgical anatomy are stunningly realistic. She treasured long talks with her grandchildren just to catchup on life. Decorating for Christmas was a passion and brought her great joy. She was an enthusiastic baseball fan and loved her Atlanta Braves. Pat was also an avid reader and could be content for hours sitting with a hot cup of tea reading a good book. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.

Pat was preceded in death by her brother Philip Salem Eassy, Jr. She is survived by two sisters Phyllis Eassy Campbell and Martha Eassy Norris of Greer, SC. She is also survived by her son and daughter-in-law Dr. and Mrs. Wayne and Kimberly Sida of Greenwood and her son David Blaine Sida of Athens, GA. She is survived by three grandchildren, Ms. Madison Nicole Sida of Columbia, SC; Ms. Mackenzie Catherine Sida of Columbia, SC; and Mr. Evan Wayne Sida of Greenwood, SC.

Private graveside services will be conducted Saturday at Oakbrook Memorial Park with Deacon Matthew Houle officiating.

John 11:25 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die.”
